Comparative Fluorescence Gel Electrophoresis (CoFGE)

One of the difficulties in analyzing 2D gel images is among others the gel-to-gel variability. Prof. König and her team from the Department of Integrated Functional Genomics at the Interdisciplinary Center for Clinical Research, University of Münster, in Germany, developed a new approach to increase the reproducibility and reliability which is explained in the

Comparative Fluorescence Gel Electrophoresis (CoFGE)

The comparison of proteins separated on two-dimensional gel electrophoresis is difficult due to gel-to-gel variability. Here, Comparative Fluorescence Gel Electrophoresis (CoFGE) is presented, which improves reproducible spot coordinate assignment considerably (~1% deviation from mean). This is achieved by the generation of a reference grid in parallel to the separation of the sample on the same gel and warping to an ideal protein grid.
